From the time it first opened in 1982, the
Rexall Grill has provided good food, good service, and good times to the
patrons of this icon of a restaurant located in historic Duluth, Georgia.
Listed as one of Gwinnett County's mainstays in the February 2003 Annual Report
(The Atlanta Journal-Constitution), the Rexall Grill is known as great
place to catch up on the latest happenings in Duluth. Not only does this place provide the best breakfast in Duluth, it does it at an exceptional value with a great atmosphere. There is an open view grill from which you can order a home style breakfast or plate lunch. Many folks are regulars in this "second home" establishment...meeting friends and often eating two meals a day here. The waitresses are a friendly bunch who take the time to meet customers and often learn their names and their food of choice. While you're enjoying your generous helpings of food there's a nostalgia to take in. This family establishment is decorated as if you've taken a step back in time. Coca-Cola memorabilia along with pictures of Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart and Vivian Leigh as Scarlet in "Gone With The Wind" line the black, white, and red Coca-Cola wallpapered walls. A 1953 Wurlitzer Jukebox plays real records from the days when when Elvis was King, and Patsy Cline, Ray Charles, and Fats Domino were topping the charts. The diverse base of customers consists of government officials, construction workers, famous sports people, CEO's and more. If all this isn't enough, the Rexall Grill conveniently co-exists with a Pharmacy and Drugstore in the same building...just like the old times. On May 1, 1994, the Rexall Grill was destroyed by a fire. After three and a half months of construction and renovation, the Grill was restored to the same "old" place. The owner, Gail Herrin, claims those were the longest months of her life. Gail served food from a concession stand in the parking lot throughout the summer while the work was in progress. When the Rexall Grill finally re-opened in August, it was bigger and better than ever. The Rexall Grill has grown to over four times it's original size since re-opening. However, the locals returned and so did Maw Maw's recipes. The Rexall Grill is worth the drive from anywhere in Atlanta. Some of the recommended favorites are (anything on the breakfast menu) or the legendary Meatloaf, Fried Chicken, and Homemade Peach Cobbler. See you soon!
